Loyiso Madinga is one of South Africa’s fastest rising stand-up comedians having firmly secured himself as an international act. But for his home audience he now brings his new stand-up comedy special, Problem Child, to the Atterbury Theatre, Pretoria.
After a phenomenal 2018/19 that launched with Loyiso being announced as the South Africa Correspondent for The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, he then went on to host the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundations’ Goalkeepers Awards ceremony in New York and recorded his debut half hour stand-up special for Netflix, Long Way From My Village.
Loyiso has been further crafting his particular style of stand-up – wit, characterisation and the ability to stretch an insight into the ridiculous. Throw some singing in there too. In Problem Child all these skills are combined to tell purely South African stories and ideas of the world from a rural boy.
Problem Child is not only about a private school miseducation, it’s a comedy show where, as Loyiso’s high school teachers would often say, hopefully you’ll come out having learned something.
